OH-58D Kiowa Warrior "Black Death"
(Academy - Nr. 2195)
Academy issued kit #2195 OH-58D Kiowa Warrior "Black Death" which is an exact reboxing of the older MRC model. The depicted version is based on the earliest version of the Kiowa Warrior. It is a very nice kit which is accurate for the early version based on the 1985 time frame.
The sprues are molded in light grey plastic with lots of fine rivet detail and recessed panel lines. The instrument panel is very accurate for the early style versions, however the details are in my opinion a bit too "fine" for this scale making it more difficult to paint. The seats don't come with seatbelts and the sticks and collectives do miss the switches and buttons.
The rotor system consists of multiple smaller parts and is very accurate. The kit also features the avionics and weapons boxes on the inside as well as the option to open up the engine bay.
This "Black Death" version gives you following armament options:
A small flexible piece of gun chute is provided for the .50 caliber option.
Academy/MRC's second boxing of this kit "Thuds" is the same kit but with other decal options and extra armament options (Stingers and rocket pods). So if you are unsure on what to build the "Thugs" kit is the better option.
There are large clear parts for the windscreens and various lenses. A small decal sheet is included. You also get two
Out of the box it will be a very nice kit but it still leaves some options to super detail.
As mentioned before the kit is very accurate for the early versions, in case you want to build an up to date Kiowa Warrior with the new cowlings you need Werner's Wings Kiowa Warrior Upgrade Set.
