AH-1G Cobra

by Patrick Nabinger (1:72 Matchbox)

Here I present you my 1/72nd Bell AH-1G Cobra from Matchbox. Yes, of course the recessed lines are too deep and must be filled with CA before rescribing them (much finer). I ad some details in the cockpit and a vacuformed canopy. The rotor needs a little work or can be replaced with the 540 rotor set from Cobra Company. In the Matchbox kit the nose turet is the early model with a single 7.62 Minigun. I modified it with a minigun and a 40mm grenade launcher. The FFAR pods under the wings are scratch built.

I inverted the antitorque rotor from the right side to the left side to match the aircraft I choose to built: Squatter Swatter flown by capt. (then 1/Lt.) Hugh Mills in Vietnam during November/December 1969. It belongs to "D" TROOP, 4th CAV, 1st Infantry Division. The decals are from Micro Scale (item 72-496 AH-1G / UH-1C ).

Yes I know, the decal silvering is not beautiful! I don't understand what happend. I always use gloss varnish before aplying the decals and revarnish (gloss) after applying the decals. Then comes yhe weathering and to finish a layer of mat varnish. But after a few weeks ...
