Westland Wessex HAR Mk.2

Westland Wessex HAR Mk.2

Here's my Wessex HAR2 made from an old Frog Wessex fuselage I found in a drawer in my garage after thirty years lying around with spanners and chisels. I didnt have the rest of the kit so I scratchbuilt the rest, but was lucky to have a salvaged Matchbox kit that I was able to borrow the main rotor gear from. I built the nose filter unit from a skin of Milliput that I carved out to suit the intakes for the Gnome engines which I salvaged from an old Airfix SH-3D then I finished the filter by making a clear cover from acetate then painting it with mesh effect I also moulded the canopy and windows

The full SAR interior is in there including the basket stretcher hanging from the ceiling and the medic and dinghy packs near the crewman, a winch was also fabricated (should I call it a "hoist"?)

XT601 had a black main oleo leg on one side and an olive green one on the other, which was common until the 'copter had a repaint. Oleo legs and main swing arms often failed in service and any colour spare parts were used

The rotor blades have the characteristic out of line look becaus ethey have been swung out of line by gravity while parked. Most of the fuselage details from 601 appear on the model

I made many of the decals myself including the yellow mesh for the tail covers and the black spaces between the yellow mesh for the cab roof
