Today I want to present you a helicopter model issued in the middle ages of model construction. A model from end 1950, perhaps beginning 1960 (Holly cow, I was born in 1958, this Alouette is as old as me !)
When my friend Gerard gave me this model, it was a wreck with a ton of dust and a few parts lying around. As it was a collectors item I thought that I must try to save it.Step one : cleaning
I soaked the Alouette in soapy water during one night. Next morning, the decals were floating at the surface of the water and the dust was at the botom of the vessel. Then I cleaned the model with a tooth brush and during this it literaly fell into pieces. The cement was very bad back in the Fifties. I was lucky as the model was still absolutely complete an no single piece was broken.Step two : rebuilding
I decided to rebuild the model keeping in my mind that it is a collectors item. I wanted to respect the original kit and I didn't modify or add additional detail and built the model completely out of the box. Even the decals were reusable. I painted this oldtimer with Humbrol and Matt varnish.
Of course this is not a hi-tech model, but it is nice to have it in my collection as it shows the progress of model making during the last 50 years. Enjoy the pictures :-)
